Floor Levelling & Self-Smoothing Compound Bristol

Older concrete often suffers from “laitance” or surface degradation due to moisture and wear. We resolve this by mechanically grinding the surface and applying a deep-penetrating acrylic primer to bind the loose particles before levelling.

Most of our industrial-grade self-smoothing compounds are foot-traffic ready within 3 to 4 hours. However, we recommend waiting a full 24 hours before installing moisture-sensitive floor coverings like wood or laminate.

<p>Self-levelling compounds are typically applied between 2mm and 30mm thick. For deeper voids or significant drops, we use a multi-layer approach or combine it with a thick-bed cementitious screed first.</p>

<p>Absolutely. Priming is a non-negotiable step. It seals the porous subfloor, prevents the compound from losing moisture too quickly (which causes cracking), and ensures a chemical bond between the old floor and the new levelling layer.</p>

<p>Wooden subfloors require a different approach than concrete. We first secure any loose boards, then overlay the area with a flexible, fibre-reinforced levelling compound specifically designed to withstand the natural expansion and contraction of timber without cracking.</p>
